Children Today will provide a wide range of mobility equipment for children and young people with disabilities that are not funded through the NHS. These include powered, manual and sports wheelchairs, specially adapted tricycles, bicycles, buggies and walking aids as well as specially designed communication aids and sensory equipment such as fibre optic sprays.
An essential piece of equipment can make the world of difference to a child’s quality of life, helping in a range of practical, functional and social situations.
Specially designed walking aids give children the chance to be mobile and independent. Many children with physical disabilities find it extremely frustrating that they cannot run and play with their peers. Mobility aids enable disabled children to move independently and socialise with other children and to develop and achieve skills that will help them in the future.
Children who cannot speak or verbally communicate often need others to try to explain what they are trying to say. This unfortunately is a reality for many children with disabilities who do not have the specialist help and equipment they need to develop basic communication skills. Children Today provide a wide range of communication aids to disabled children each year, such as touch screens for computers and specially designed software – helping some children communicate for the first time.
We believe communication tools are essential for a child’s development. Without them many disabled children are not being given the chance to grow and develop that they deserve. Children Today has helped many children communicate for the first time but there are still a lot of children who desperately need our help.
For severely disabled children, physical support and sensory stimulation is vital in aiding relaxation and physical control.
Children who are severely disabled often cannot relax their muscles and have difficulty controlling physical movements. Specially designed sensory aids like fibre optic sprays help to provide stimulation for the mind and help relax body movement.
Children Today purchase light projectors, bubble tubes and many other specialised tools which aid sensory stimulation through light, touch and sound and will also aid relaxation.
