About the book…

When the world gets too much, Bo feels his Feel-O-Meter go from 1-10. Noises, smells, sounds, the world can be an overwhelming place. One day, Bo’s numbers climb too quickly and all he wants to do is hide. But then he makes a remarkable little friend….

When things get too loud is a story about sensory overload, how it feels, what can trigger it and what may help. The Feel-O-Meter provides the child and parents with a visual guide through emotions and the book comes with ideas to cope with overwhelming situations.

About the Author

Anne Alcott lives among giant rolls of cheese, romantic canals and masses of bikes in the Netherlands. In her childhood she spent countless hours running through the Black forest in Germany, imagining all sorts of fantastical creatures and enchanted portals to other worlds.

After dabbling in theatre, visual arts and designing clothes her creative heart found the most fulfilment in telling stories for adults and children alike. Crafting stories to show the beauty of diversity and to help children cope with difficult situations is one way for her to try and erase the stigma around people who are “different”.

This is just one of a series of online storytelling sessions we are hosting for children featuring themes about disability, to help promote inclusivity, boost self-confidence and inspire young readers and hopeful authors or illustrators to be! To view our other upcoming events, click here.
