Bart’s New Wheels

Written by Emma on 25th July 2014

Ten year old Bart is an extremely active boy who loves playing sports with his friends and spending time outdoors. He is also a full time wheelchair user due to spina bifida. This means Bart has little or no sensation in his lower limbs so he relies heavily on his wheelchair for his freedom.

Bart’s parents applied to Children Today for help with funding a new lightweight wheelchair that provides the correct postural and pressure support for Bart but at the same time allows him to be independent and enjoy his favourite activities.

A few years ago we provided Bart with a wheelchair, but as he has outgrown it now, we were only happy to help him with a new set of wheels and hope to be able to continue to support him in the future.

Children Today recently received an email from Bart’s mum and dad and we would like to share with you what they have written:

“Good Morning Everyone at Children Today

We would like to announce that Bart’s chair has arrived. It is soooo beautiful, so great and cool, that we cannot even put into words. He jumped onto it and just went flying.

My husband and I would like to take this opportunity in thanking you all for help with our son’s wheelchair. It has been lovely speaking to you every time, every email. You are such a helpful and caring organization!!!

I’m sure you will love his photos. They will tell you everything.

From the very bottom of our hearts, Justyna and Maciej”

Bart’s equipment cost £3,347.
