We are currently recruiting for a Fundraising & Communications Assistant (Maternity cover) at our charity.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Fundraising & Communications Assistant to help support our work at the Chester-based charity Children Today. Our charity helps support children and young people with disabilities by providing grants for specialised and adapted equipment to help change their lives.
Your role will be key in supporting the communications and fundraising teams with events, corporate fundraising, marketing communications and general administration. You’ll be able to communicate effectively with people at all levels and work well on your own or as part of a team.
You will represent Children Today at key events and help develop partnerships that support the future growth of our charity. This role would be an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain experience within a fundraising and communications role within the charity sector.
Accountable to: Head of Communications
Tasks: Main duties will include, but are not restricted by, the following:
To support the fundraising and communications functions within the charity with tasks including event organisation administration such as participant registration, creating and sending communications, organising event collateral, arranging venue booking, helping with mailouts etc.
Drafting and issuing press releases to raise awareness about the charity and downloading, distributing and collating ensuing media coverage.
Helping arrange interviews with families and sending out and collating consent forms for use of imagery in marketing communications.
To order corporate collateral (eg business cards/letterheads, flyers, branded t-shirts etc) and manage stock levels keeping stock area tidy.
Undertake web/phone research for fundraising/marketing initiatives.
Distribution and organisation of fundraising prizes, collateral and certificates.
Update the charity’s social media channels creating engaging content and respond to online enquiries.
Assist on a range of campaigns from corporate fundraising to challenge and social events liasing with partners and participants.
To support the team by inputting and editing, where appropriate, relevant information onto the Raiser’s Edge database.
Create and update content on the charity’s website including events, news posts and case studies.
Creating and updating online listings to promote fundraising events.
Creating and designing email communications using email software such as MailChimp.
Provide ad hoc support/ other duties where appropriate as agreed in discussion with line manager.
Liaise with Line Manager ensuring at all times s/he is fully aware of and updated on the work completed and pending.
Be available for training (external and internal) which will assist in improving personal development and effectiveness.
Experience of creating brand content for social media is desirable.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Good time management and organisation skills with the ability to prioritise and plan own workload and meet deadlines.
Excellent attention to detail.
Experience of writing press releases/news stories is not essential but is desirable.
Experience with mailing software such as Mailchimp is desirable.
As the role may require meeting partners off site, a driving license is essential.
Role location: The post holder will be based at the Children Today office situated on the outskirts of Chester at: 17B Telford Court, Chestergates Business Park, Chester CH1 6LT
Salary: £17,000 – £20,000 pro rata, dependent on experience.
Hours: Part time 20-25 hours per week (to be agreed with the successful applicant). Maternity leave position – nine months contract.
Holidays: 25 days pro rata (up to 5 days to be taken over the Christmas period as instructed by Children Today). Exclusive of statutory and general national holidays.
All appointments with Children Today are subject to a six month probationary period.
